Donor Testimonials

A beloved science teacher, a friendship made on the soccer field, a completed term paper, an opportunity to participate in Model UN, the ability to collaborate and problem solve, the chance to lead in debate. We love to hear stories about why members from the JBS community give. We welcome you to share your story with us.

Kirsten and Doug Dietrich, parents of Henry '17 and George '21

"Today was Geo’s last official school day at JBS. What an amazing six years it has been. He learned how to learn here. He learned how to advocate for himself here. He learned resilience here. He learned the meaning of friendship here. Most importantly, he learned he could be himself here. He will go out into the world with the confidence he didn’t have when he first arrived. Thank you to the entire John Burroughs School community for all that you have invested in him."

Candice and James Muhammad, parents of Ahmad '25 and Amir '27

"A great education, coupled with a nurturing environment is invaluable...and that is EXACTLY what Burroughs is.... We give because we want to help ensure that the opportunities our children are allowed to experience can and are able to be enjoyed by others."

Craig Williams, parent of Evan '18

"In an ordinary school year, under the best of conditions, the work of this group of human beings is amazing, life-changing. But throughout the Covid, this group's impressive, ongoing capacity to unlock and pass on knowledge, inspire curiosity and creativity, nurture empathic engagement, facilitate interdependence while simultaneously encouraging independence, it's just next-level. JBS teachers and staff have it going on. Beyond grateful for their talents and hard work."

Susan Rossi Murchison '95

"Burroughs will always be a philanthropic priority for our family because of all it gave to me when I was a student there. I learned how to study, created friendships I still maintain, and enjoyed some wonderful teachers. My appreciation of literature today is a direct result of the English faculty's skilled guidings that I continue to reflect on, and the math and science classes introduced me to the natural world as well as to logic and reasoning. As children of a faculty member, my brothers and I benefited from an extremely generous tuition remission program, and my hope is that my support can help someone in similar need."

Andrew Barnell, Alum '07

"I give to Burroughs because of the three schools that I attended, I believe that Burroughs was the greatest contributor to my education and success . I feel that it is important for me to continue to contribute Burroughs for others to have the same experience. I just really loved my time at Burroughs."
